Billet Program
Tier I Billet Program
The growth and success of the Kachinas program over the past six seasons (including the number of teams we have sent to USA Hockey Tier I and Tier II Nationals) has certainly caught the attention of many across the country and has drawn interest in our program from out-of-state players.
As we build for the future and improve the competitiveness of our Tier I and Tier II teams, we have the opportunity to add a few out-of-state players to our roster(s). As AAHA (Arizona Amateur Hockey Association) guidelines limit the number of out-of-state players a team can roster (approximately 25%), we are only looking at 4-5 spots per Tier I team depending on overall roster size. Adding these players not only increases the competitiveness of our Tier I and Tier II teams but also allows us to accurately place players, based on their individual skill sets and developmental needs, on a team supportive of their continued growth and success in hockey and in life.
In order to successfully attract out-of-state players, we need to implement a billet program. A billet program is industry standard for Tier I associations and provides hockey players with a “home away from home” during the hockey season by matching the players with local families. The “host” family provides room and board during the hockey season in exchange for a monthly stipend to cover food costs, etc. In many cases, the strong bond created between a billet player and a host family lasts a lifetime.
At this time, we are looking for families that would be willing to host out-of-state Arizona Kachina Tier I players for the 2025-2026 season.
