Why Choose the Kachinas?
Join the only all-girls hockey association in Arizona & the premier girls hockey club in the Southwest!
Thanks to the vision of our co-founders, the late Matt Shott (2024 AZ Sports Hall of Fame inductee) and Lyndsey Fry (US Olympic Silver Medalist), the Arizona Kachinas have established a program of excellence with 7 USA Hockey Nationals berths, 4 National Runner-Up finishes, and 50 collegiate hockey players produced in just six years!
We offer girls-only programming for ages 5-19 in an environment focused on growth, development, winning, and fun! Learn more about our philosophy and watch some testimonials below!

- Hockey is the ultimate team sport, where even star players cannot succeed without their teammates
- On a hockey team, girls learn about cooperation and working with others to achieve a common goal
- Hockey is great equalizer as economic status, ethnic background, looks, etc. are not important when young girls are on a team
- Hockey teaches girls how to communicate constructively with coaches and their peers
Physical Benefits
- Girls who play hockey see many health benefits, including muscle strength, cardiovascular and a healthy body image
- Hockey provides a means of stress relief; allowing girls to clear their minds of the many pressures they face with school, social situations, peers, etc.
- Hockey players learn to make healthy lifestyle choices
- Hockey relies on good coordination between the eyes and the hands and also improves reaction time
Personal Benefits
- Hockey helps girls deal with challenges and disappointments they may face on and off the ice
- Hockey provides an opportunity for girls to serve as leaders of their peers
- Hockey players must learn to manage their time productively balancing practice/games, school and other responsibilities
